Ex-engineer held in corruption case

AGARTALA, Oct 1 - Following the filing of a chargesheet on Monday, Alak Ranjan Roy Chowdhury, former Additional Chief Engineer, Planning Circle, PWD (R&B), was arrested in a corruption case. He has been sent to judicial custody till October 11 after being produced before the court.

Two former engineers-in-chief, Sunil Bhowmik and Soumesh Chandra Das � who also face corruption charges � have got anticipatory bail from the High Court, sources said.

The Crime Branch of Tripura Police has submitted the chargesheet against the two former engineers-in-chief and three senior engineers under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, before a special court.

The State Government has registered an FIR against the two former engineers-in-chief and three senior engineers for procedural faults and negligence of duty. In the chargesheet, the investigating officer of the case has pointed out irregularities in construction of a flyover and a steel bridge, causing loss to the government exchequer.

Investigation into the case was completed within seven months of its registration by the Crime Branch.
