NAGAON, April 29 Releasing the English translation of Gunamala, original works of saint reformer Srimanta Sankardev, Bhadra Krishna Goswami, former president of Asam Satra Mahasabha, appreciated the efforts of Dr Sanjib Kumar Barkataki who took pains to translate it into English for the readers across the globe.

It requires great skill to translate Sankardevs works, Satradhikar Goswami observed and hoped that this translated work christened Garland of Virtues would help the non-Assamese readers to understand the ideals of Sankardev.

Scholar Kalash Chandra Das opined that knowledge of both the languages is a pre-condition to undertake such a step and Barkakati has that capacity.

Earlier, Dr Barkakati translated Borgeet of Srimanta Sankardev and Namghosha of Madhavdev. The book also contains transliteration of original verse which was done by Jadav Chandra Mahanta, eminent Satriya artist of upper Assam.

The book was published by the Society for Sreemanta Sankardeva and sponsored by Bhairab Chandra Mahanta of Golaghat. Mahanta was felicitated in the function which was held recently.

Eminent personalities of Nagaon and other parts of the State were present in the function which was moderated by Pradip Hazarika, coordinator of the society. General secretary Neilh Gautam offered the vote of thanks.
