EC team to visit Tripura today to review poll preparations

AGARTALA, March 16 - A four-member team of ECI headed by Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain would be arriving here on Sunday to review preparations for the upcoming Parliamentary elections in Tripura.

While West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency goes to polls on April 11, polling will be taken up for East Tripura Lok Sabha seat on April 18.

During the visit, the EC team will hold a meeting with the State Election officials to review the overall preparation for holding Parliamentary elections. State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Tarinikanta, Spl CEO PR Bhattacharjee and Returning Officers of both the Lok Sabha constituencies will attend the review meeting.

The CEO has already had a meeting with Election department officials yesterday on how to conduct the election smoothly. Training for polling personnel, presiding officers and sector magistrates have already been completed. The EC team will have a separate meeting with DGP AK Sukla, Addl DG Rajiv Singh and senor police officers to check the security measures for Lok Sabha elections.

Confirming the EC team�s visit, the CEO said this kind of visit is a routine exercise before the elections. �They will have a day-long meeting with Election officials to check the preparedness. Besides, representatives of political parties will also get a chance to meet the EC team�, he said.

On the security issue, the CEO said adequate security personnel would be deployed to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections.

Sources said, 20 companies of Central Para Military Forces (CPMF) would be sent to the State for election duty and the first batch of CPMF has already arrived at Dharmanagar. Deployment of CPMF for Lok Sabha elections will be started from today itself.
