Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics Forum on Nov 1-2

GUWAHATI, Oct 12 - The 5th edition of the Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics Forum on the theme �Rural Futures: Social-Environmental-Economic Interdependence� will be held here on November 1 and 2.

The forum, organised by the Balipara Foundation, is a multi-disciplinary platform for innovation and collaboration that will host more than 600 delegates from over 14 countries.

�The delegates� list is comprised of conservationists, local communities, earth heroes, wilderness management experts, technologists, grassroots leaders, social impact organisations, educators, governments and key influencers from the field,� a statement issued by Balipara Foundation said.

�In the various discussions during the forum, the global think-tanks will present case studies and panel discussions on key components of the rural futures framework such as ethnography, human-centric- geology, ethno-botany, water and sanitation, education, mindful tourism, alternate financing, technology advancements, etc., and provide meaningful insights on prototypes, actions and solutions that are impacting community conservation from snowline to sea-line,� Saurav Malhotra, designer, Rural Futures, Balipara Foundation, said.

Talking about the forum, Rituraj Phukan, environmentalist and secretary general of Green Guard Nature Organisation said, �We have seen several key outcomes and resolutions emanate from the forum, which have a direct influence on ideas and actions on ground leading towards Asian elephant conservation, successful community conservation models and biodiversity audits. It also presents ample opportunities for networking, partnerships and direct multi-level, multi-state and multi-country conversations to build.�

Local leaders from the Assamese, Adivasi, Bodo, Bengalee, Garo, Mising, Nepalese, Nyishi and Rajbongshi communities will also share their experiences and conservation stories, the statement added.

At the same programme, the 6th Balipara Foundation Awards, 2018 will be conferred on 13 persons who put into action innovative solutions for ecological restoration and inspire others.
