AIZAWL, May 24 - A huge cache of drugs seized jointly by Kolasib unit of Young Mizo Association (YMA), police and Excise and Narcotics department were destroyed on Wednesday.
An official statement said that about 3,615 tablets of Parvonspas, 3,11,135 tablets of Pseudoephedrin, 35 kg of ganja (cannabis), 52 strips of Nitrozepam, some quantity of heroin and bottles of liquor, altogether worth over Rs 17 lakh were burned by State Home Minister R Lalzirliana at Kolasib.
Speaking on the occasion, Lalzirliana lauded the efforts of YMA in rendering help to the police and Excise and Narcotics department in combating drugs menace in the State.
Expressing concern over rampant use of drugs, Lalzirliana said an awareness campaign should be launched in the State.
He also called upon all NGOs, church leaders to join hands with the government in combating drug menace in Mizoram.
Instances of drug abuse in the state has been constantly on the rise and with no stringent rules to curb the menace, the State has become a vulnerable target for drug peddlers and crimes associated with drugs.
