Dr Moidul Islam Bora sahitya award

SIVASAGAR, Sept 20 � A prize has been instituted by the family of late Dr Moidul Islam Bora, the first doctorate degree holder of the North- east. The prize comprises a bronze trophy, Rs 10,000 in cash, a commemoration certificate, an Assamese sarai and a seleng chadar.

It was awarded to litterateur Jeliluddin Ahmed, who mainly created characters and plots of the tribal people on the terrains and tracks of beautiful and rugged hills and lovely valleys of Karbi Anglong hills of Assam.

Earlier, he won an accredition and awards for his novels and short stories numbering about 300. His Sadar Kalumundu, a novel, was produced as a telefilm and telecasted recently by the Doordarshan, Guwahati. Some other novels are Mahabire Khong Nokore, Sewji Dharani, Ata Aidew Hondikoi etc.

In his speech, Jeliluddin told the audience about his spirit of welfare and social work among the needy tribes of Karbi Anglong that gave him resources for his creative art and now the environment has helped him with inspiration.

He appealed to the younger generation to be creative and guide people for a cohesive life and a life of hope and happiness. He appealed for compassion and understanding.

Dr Lakhmi Nandan Bora, eminent litterateur, handed over the award to Jeliluddin Ahmed. He spoke about intelligent use of merit and talent by Jeliluddin. He advised him to continue his creative work with vigour.
