Dr Goswami�s death widely condoled

GUWAHATI, Nov 30 � Jnanpith Award-winning litterateur, former Professor of the Delhi University and eminent Ramayani scholar Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami�s demise was condoled by various organisations and institutions across Assam.

Our Bureau reports from Dibrugarh: The central committee of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) deeply mourned the death of the celebrated writer at a relatively early age of 69. In a message released to the media, ACMS general secretary Dileswar Tanti said that her demise has created a void in the country�s literary scene which can never be filled. He added that her death has caused an irreparable loss to the social fabric of Assam.

DIGBOI: Various socio-literary and cultural organizations of Digboi also deeply mourned the demise of the celebrated novelist and authority on the Ramayana. Yesterday, Digboi Press Club, Digboi unit of AASU, Digboi Sahitya Seva Samiti, Digboi Child Welfare Centre and many other organizations paid rich tributes to the great litterateur.

Shops and business establishments also kept their shutters down in the morning hours as a mark of respect to her departed soul.

UDALGURI: The Udalguri district committee of Assam Sahitya Sabha in association with Udalguri Sahitya Sabha today deeply condoled the demise of Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami and paid floral tribute to the Jnanapith award winner in a condolence meeting held at the Sahitya Sabha bhawan at Udalguri town.

The meeting, chaired by Manik Chandra Sarmah, president of Udalguri District Sahitya Sabha, was addressed by Debraj Sapkota, Barendra Nath Pathak, Gautam J Talukdar, Panuram Nath, Madhu Patowary, etc, who dwelt upon the life and works of the celebrated author.

The state committee of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP), a leading social organisation, also condoled the demise of Dr Goswami.

Dr Goswami was �a gem of Indian literature� and her literary and social contributions will always be remembered by the people of this country, stated a BGP press release issued by Pushpadhar Sarmah, president of the organisation.

The United Democratic People�s Front (UDPF), a regional political party of Bodoland region, also condoled the demise of the Jnanpith awardee, according to a press note by issued today Prodeep Kumar Daimari, spokesman of the party and MCLA of Bhiarabkunda BTC seat. Daimari prayed for eternal peace for her departed soul.

Doomdooma: The death of Dr Goswami was widely mourned in and around the tea town. A public condolence meeting was held at Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha Bhawan last evening, where representatives of different organisations and public deeply mourned her death. Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Doomdooma Press Club, Tinsukia District Sahitya Sabha, Tinsukia District Journalists� Association, Doomdooma Jatiya Gana Mancha, Hoonlal HS School, Doomdooma Girls� High School, Doomdooma College, Doomdooma Jatiya Vidyalaya, Rupai Jatiya Vidyalaya, Rupai High School, Learners� High School, Learners� Junior College, Rupai Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Bahniman Sahitya Chakra, Doomdooma branch of Sadou Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, Doomdooma regional committees of AASU, AJYCP, AAMSU, ATASU, AAHSU, ATTSA, AASAA, Doomdooma branches of Asom Chah Mazdur Sangha, Asam Chah Karmachari Sangha, Doomdooma Sports Association, Nikhil Asom Oriya Mahasabha, Ramdhenu Mohila Chora, Doomdooma Asomiya Puja Aru Natya Mandir Samiti, Doomdooma Namghar Samiti, Abhinaba Natya Mancha, Tinsukia district committee and Tinsukia and Doomdooma branch committees of Asom Natya Sammilan and many other organisations and associations, along with educational institutions of the greater Doomdooma area, condoled the death of Dr Goswami and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Chapar: The Dhubri district committee of AASAA also condoled the death of Dr Goswami. Different organisations like Chapar Press Club, Bahalpur Anchalik Students� Union, Bahalpur Anchalik Koch-Rajbangshi Students� Union, Dhubri district committee of Nari Adhikar Suraksha Samiti, Bhojpuri Sewa Samiti, Dhubri district committee of Anushuchit Jati Mahasabha, Chapar Savkocha Primary Teachers� Association, St Cheret School of Barjhar, Gul Akhtara Begum MLA Bilasipara East, also mourned Dr Goswami�s death.

Jagiroad: Several socio-cultural and educational organisations, including Jagiroad Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Jagiroad College, Jagiroad Anchalik Students� Union, Indus Academy School, women�s wing � Arpita, Lekhika Samaroh, Sur-Deol Sangeet Mahavidyalay, Jagiroad Sahitya Sangeet Vidyalay, Karbi Students� Union, local units of AJYCP, Tiwa Students� Union, Jagi Bhakatgaon Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Jagi Bhakatgaon Anchalik Students� Union, Save Basundhara, Jagi Kalpataru Puthibharal and Kristi Chora, among others, also condoled the demise of the internationally acclaimed writer.
