DULIAJAN, Dec 1 - The 14th edition of the Dr Bhabendranath Saikia Memorial Pathar National Theatre Festival will be held with a four-day programme from December 12 at the Duliajan Club auditorium here.
According to the schedule of the festival, the programme would start at 5. 45 pm on December 12 with a creative group dance performance by specially-abled students of Mrinaljyoti Rehabilitation Centre, Duliajan. Noted playwright, theatre director and poet of Assamese literature, Rafiqul Hussain will formally inaugurate the festival.
The coordinator of Pathar, Pabitra Chetia informed this correspondent that in the inaugural function of the national theatre festival, Pathar�s first committee president and working president Dr Bimal Sarma and Hemen Neog respectively will be felicitated along with others. The inaugural programme will be followed by staging of Padmapriya by �Ba� theatre group of Guwahati. The play Padmapriya is inspired by Dr Mamoni Roisam Goswami�s novel Devipithar tej. Padmapriya is directed and written by noted theatre personality Pakija Begum. The second and last play of that day will be Joker, which will be presented by Pathar. The planning and direction of the play Joker has been done by Gunamani Baruah.
On December 13, West Bengal based Gobardanga Mridangam will present Rebirth which will be directed by Varun Kar. After that, Biswanath Chariali-based Barnam will present Ambikagatha on the same date. Ambikagatha is planned and directed by Kushal Deka and is written by Hillol Kumar Pathak. On December 14, Replica group of Jorhat will perform A Bedroom in the planning and direction of Rupjyoti Mahanta. While Dibrugarh based Dhou� the Wave Group will present Shree. The drama Shree is written by Rajkumar Rahul Dehingia and directed by Abhijit Chutia.
On the last day of the festival, i.e., on December 15, Sabda group of Jorhat will present The Interior under the direction of Ujjwal Paogam. The play is based on a short story by Saurav Chaliha. The last play of that day and the festival will be New Delhi�s Anand Theatre�s presentation 420 which will be directed by Arun Kumar Mallik.
