GUWAHATI, Oct 8 - A documentary on women and child trafficking titled Slaughtered Dream (Understanding Women & Child Trafficking in Assam), was screened at Jyoti Chitraban here on Sunday.
The documentary follows the story of Reema Teron, portrayed in her own words, about how she was offered a job which resulted in her becoming a victim of trafficking, and how she managed to escape from the clutches of the vicious circle and live to tell her story.
Other survivors � victims and their families, alleged traffickers, and other stakeholders also tell their stories � which supports the main theme and elaborates on the scary scale of human trafficking in Assam. It also talks about social stigma attached to the survivors of trafficking in our society.
The film, towards the end, focuses on awareness, prevention and rehabilitation measures taken up by different NGOs. The film ends with a message from Reema, warning other people in similar situations not to fall prey to the promises of lurking traffickers. The narrative asks the audience to come forward and help take measures to prevent trafficking and provide the girls with a better future.
The film is produced by Dr Sunita Changkakoti under the banner of Balimahi Production and is directed by Angshu M Kakati.
Dr Changkakoti is presently the chairperson of Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
The chief guest for the evening was Hrishikesh Goswami, Media Adviser to the Chief Minister.
Speaking on the occasion and after coming to know about the torture meted out to the victims, Goswami assured all help from the State Government�s side and also promised to take up the matter with the Chief Minister.
