Doctors operate on pregnant woman with COVID-19

ITANAGAR, Oct 1 - Doctors at the General Hospital at Aalo successfully operated upon a pregnant woman with COVID-19 and delivered her baby.

The baby girl, however, tested negative for the virus, official sources said, adding that both the mother and the baby are in good condition.

Sources said the baby is being looked after by her relatives, while her mother has been shifted to a COVID Care Centre.

Following the surgery, the operation theatre of the hospital has been closed for two days for fumigation and sanitization, sources said.

The surgery was carried out by a team of doctors comprising Dr J Kayi (obstetrics and gynaecology) and Dr T Paser (anaesthetist), who were assisted by staff nurse L Pasi and two attendants � IB Limbu and Rita Ado.

Meanwhile, sources in the Health Department said that the department is planning to set up a designated COVID-19 OT at the Dedicated COVID Health Center (DCHC) block shortly.

COVID count: The COVID-19 caseload of Arunachal Pradesh mounted to 9,796 with 244 more people testing positive on Wednesday.

On the other hand, 147 patients were released from hospitals thereby pushing the number of recoveries to 6,890, a bulletin issued by the State Directorate of Health Services said.

Of the fresh cases, 117 were reported from Itanagar Capital Complex, 15 each from West Siang and Changlang, 14 each from Upper Subansiri and Papumpare and 13 from West Kameng.

Nine cases were detected in Kurung Kumey, eight in Tirap, seven in East Siang, six in Lower Siang, five in Leparada and four in Tawang. Longding, Kra Daadi and Namsai accounted for three cases each while two cases each were detected in Pakke Kessang, East Kameng and Upper Siang and one each in Lower Subansiri and Lohit.

At present, the State has 2,890 active cases while 16 people have succumbed to the infection, the bulletin added.
