Dipali Barthakur cremated

GUWAHATI, Dec 22 - The mortal remains of Dipali Barthakur, the �Nightingale of Assam�, were consigned to flames at a largely-attended funeral at Navagraha today.

The singing icon was cremated with full state honours.

Prior to the funeral, her body was taken to All India Radio (Akashvani) Guwahati, Rabindra Bhawan, Asam Sahitya Sabha head office and Swahid Nyas, the All Assam Students Union (AASU) head office for enabling the public to pay their last respects to their beloved singer.

As the procession with her body in a decorated vehicle passed through the city roads, bystanders in large numbers paid tribute to her.

Among those who attended her funeral were distinguished personalities drawn from the spheres of art, culture and literature. They recalled her contribution and said that with her death the curtains had fallen on a golden era of music.

Borthakur had passed away at a city hospital yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Save Guwahati Build Guwahati and Progoti Silpi Sangha have expressed their condolences at the passing away of the iconic singer.
