Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

DIBRUGARH, July 15 - The number of flood-affected villages in the district has gone up to 102. Dibrugarh West Revenue Circle is the worst affected with some 64 villages coming under the cover of water. As per an assessment by the district disaster management cell here, some 64478 people, 4489.35 hectares of agricultural land, 46827 cattle and birds have been affected by the flood in the district. The grim flood situation shows no signs of abatement anywhere in upper Assam.

The local DC and others in the district administration continue to inspect the situation and have visited several relief camps in Dibrugarh West Revenue Circle and interacted with the affected people.

During the inspection, the officials sought to know if the flood affected people were provided relief services like food items and medical help timely. It is gathered that the distributed foodstuff etc are too meagre, given the number of people and livestock affected by floods. Many localities of the city which has been inundated since past seven days also continue to be under the knee-deep deluge. The Convoy Road near All India Radio station has been closed due to huge flow of flood water.
