DIBRUGARH, Oct 25 - Development and upgradation works under several schemes for the Water Resources Department were centrally inaugurated on Wednesday during an unveiling ceremony at Kacharighat here.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal unveiled the schemes in presence of State Minister of Water Resources Keshab Mahanta, MPs and MLAs of the region and officials from the Water Resources Department. Sonowal also simultaneously laid the foundation stone for the Brahmaputra River Front Development, a project facility centre and a guest house of Water Resources Department.
Among the schemes, schemes costing about Rs 118.41 crore are under the State Disaster Management, seven schemes worth Rs 23.48 crore are under State fund, 4 schemes estimated at about Rs 40.50 crore is drawn from NABARD and some 11 schemes worth Rs 206.80 crore is aided by the Asian Development Bank.
The Brahmaputra River Front Development will include pile footing, retaining wall, geo-bag protection, food plaza, open air theatre, children play zone, fountain, water body, etc. All of these will be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 46.58 crore from the City Infra Development Fund.
Sonowal, in his address to the gathering, said the government is seeking to convert cities of the State into smart cities as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. �The 180-year-old city had been deprived of modern facilities by the previous government. Our aim is to make the city vibrant and thriving so that it can attract both domestic and foreign tourists and thereby boost the economy,� said Sonowal.
