Deputy Speaker washes feet of first plasma donor of Cachar

SILCHAR, Aug 14 - In what could be called a unique move to inspire people who recover from COVID-19, Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar washed the feet of Nabidul Islam Laskar, the first plasma donor at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).

The Deputy Speaker visited the plasma donor�s residence at Kanakpur part-I here on Thursday and extended his gratitude by washing his feet before felicitating him.

�Having been given plasma therapy from Guwahati during my treatment at the SMCH, I am indebted to the donors. I had made a commitment that whosoever shall volunteer to donate plasma for the treatment of COVID-19, I shall reach out to the donors and wash their feet as a mark of gratitude for their noble donation for humanity. Nabidul is an inspiration for all those who wish to donate plasma,� Laskar said.

He urged people who have recovered from symptomatic COVID-19 to donate plasma, and said that people must not hesitate to come for tests and subsequent treatment.

Overwhelmed by the honour, Nabidul said that along with his family, he was affected by the novel coronavirus and hence decided to donate plasma to save at least one patient. �I was elated at the gesture of the Deputy Speaker. I express my heartfelt thanks to Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who congratulated me in a tweet,� the youth said.
