Dengue screening begins at Mizoram airport

AIZAWL, Aug 20 - Mizoram Health and Family Welfare department has begun screening of suspected dengue cases at Lengpui Airport, near here.

Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) State Nodal Officer Dr Pachuau Lalmalsawma said today that one person infected with dengue was found at the airport and entered Mizoram by flight. The person was being treated.

The screening would continue in view of the prevalence of dengue in West Bengal and neighbouring Assam. The State Government has set up sentinel surveillance unit at Aizawl Civil Hospital and south Mizoram�s Lunglei district hospital and is being manned by experts, he said.

So far, 115 samples have been tested in the State and only one case was found to be positive, he said, adding the patient was already cured.

Meanwhile, not a single case of Japanese Encephalitis has been detected in the State even as outbreak of the disease was reported in neighbouring Manipur, he added. � PTI
