Demand to set up Karimganj Medical College at Rupargool

NILAMBAZAR, Sept 3 -Holly Moon, a non governmental socio-educational organisation has demanded that the newly proposed Karimganj Medical College and Hospital be set up at Rupargool under Nilambazar circle.

In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, it said that the government of Assam is going to set up a new medical college at Karimganj district and the construction of the said hospital is slated to begin within March 2019. They informed the Chief Minister that the Rupargool area is in the centre of the district and there is sufficient hilly land available for construction of the said hospital. This area is situated only two kilometres from Nilambazar and 20 kilometres from district headquarters. The rail and road communication is also good. Copies of the memorandum were sent to the Health Minister and the Commissioner of Health, Government of Assam urging them to visit the site of the proposed land.

Bar body election: The general election of District Advocates Bar, Karimganj is going to be held on September 5. Returning officer Arunangsu Bhattacharjee and two additional returning officers Faruk Choudhury and Biswa Baran Baruah presented a notification regarding the schedule of the election on Friday.

A total of 21 candidates submitted their nominations against different posts. Bhattacharjee said that out of three candidates, one for assistant general secretary (female reserved) and two for executive members (female reserved) have won without contest.
