GUWAHATI, Jan 16 - Debanga Kalita clinched the title in 3rd Sunday Rapid Chess organised by the Guwahati Chess Academy yesterday.
Debanga remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and scored 5.5 points from 6 rounds. In the final game Debanga drew against Uddipta Gogoi. Uddipta scored 5 points from 6 rounds and got second position. Manthan Kashayp Datta scored 4.5 points by beating Pran Gobinda Parashar Kashyap. Dhruba Jyoti Deka and Arunabh Gohain also scored 4.5 points but declared fourth and fifth respectively.
Altogether 31 players including 18 rated players participated in the tournament which was held in Swiss League system.
Pranab Kumar Nath conducted the tournament as chief arbiter and he was assisted by Th Bipin Singh as deputy arbiter.
Final rankings: 1st Debanga Kalita (5.5pt), 2nd Uddipta Gogoi (5 pt), 3rd Manthan Kashyap Datta (4.5 pt), 4th Jyoti Deka (4.5 pt), 5th Arunabh Gohain (4.5 pt). Special prizes: (U-7) 1st Hridika Das, 2nd Farhan Tanvir, 3rd Keertan Kalita. (U-9) 1st Anchit Thakuria, 2nd Attri Nibir Borah. (U-11) 1st Ashvin Sharma, 2nd Pran Govinda Parashar Kashyap, 3rd Aslesha Talukdar. (U-13) 1st Arkapravo Rajknowar, 2nd Rajdeep Mudiar, 3rd Gunjan Basistha.
