COVID-19 volunteer dies

AIZAWL, June 9 - An 18-year-old girl, who was among local volunteers guarding the Indo-Myanmar border in south Mizoram to prevent the spread of COVID-19 across the border, died of malaria and jaundice around 1 pm today.

�H Lalvenmawii, a resident of Sangau-I village in Lawngtlai district, fell ill while on duty post near the Myanmar border,� a source from Lawngtlai said. It added that she breathed her last a few hours after she was admitted to the Sangau PHC.

The cause of her death has been confirmed to be malaria and jaundice.

After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mizoram Government sealed its inter-State and international borders to prevent the spread of the virus across the border. Local volunteers are assisting security forces in guarding the long porous State borders.
