ITANAGAR, June 16 - Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Pasang Dorjee Sona and Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte today felicitated 15 youths from different professional backgrounds who have volunteered to serve in the Arunachal Pradesh State Legislative Assembly (APLA) COVID-19 control room for the last two months.

As suggested by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the APLA COVID-19 control room was set up at the Assembly Secretariat here under the direction of Speaker Sona in order to help stranded Arunachal people across the country due to the nationwide lockdown.

During the lockdown period, the APLA control room volunteers, under the supervision of Nodal Officer PN Thongchi (Special Secretary to the Speaker) coordinated with the Central COVID control room at the Lok Sabha Secretariat and also other State Assemblies for exchange of information and resolving problems of stranded people.

Lauding the volunteers, the Arunachal Assembly Speaker said, You have redefined the true meaning of volunteer by selflessly working for needy people under tremendous pressure during the lockdown. Your services will not go unnoticed.

Sona cited an example of how the APLA COVID-19 control room volunteers helped two differently abled students to return home safely from different locations of Meghalaya.

Further, stating that the fight against the novel coronavirus is not yet over, the Speaker called upon the youths to spread awareness among people to strictly follow the SOPs and government guidelines.

The Deputy Speaker also appreciated the volunteers for running the COVID-19 control room with dedication and helping out the stranded people during the lockdown period.
