IMPHAL, May 25 - The total number of COVID-19 positive cases increased to 36 after four persons tested positive in Manipur, Health Department officials informed today.
Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director and spokesperson of the state health department in a press release today said that two more active cases were detected last night, one each at VRDLs (Virus Research and Diagnosis Laboratory) of RIMS and JNIMS.
The 33rd case is a 22-year-old male from Churachandpur district and is now in the isolation facility in the district hospital at Churachandpur, the release stated.
The release added that the 34th case is a 21-year-old male from Noney district and will be shifted to the covid care facility at RIMS.
Later, updating the total number of positive cases in another press release, the spokesperson of the health department said that two others, including a 20-year-old female from Kangpokpi and a 19-year-old male from Senapati district were also confirmed as Covid-19 positive at VRDL in JNIMS.
Stating that the condition of all the three new cases were stable, the third press release added: �With this, the total number of positive cases has increased to 36. The number of active cases is 32.�
Three more persons, including a female were tested positive for Covid-19 in the state today.
On Saturday, two patients recovered during treatment and were discharged from hospital. It may be noted that the state�s first two Covid-19 positive cases recovered fully and were discharged from hospital in April.
The number of positive cases for Covid-19 in the state is on the rise after the arrival of stranded people from various states. According to official reports, so far more than 10,000 people have returned to Manipur.
Meanwhile, people of the state who were stranded in view of the nationwide lockdown, began arriving by air at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport near Imphal. On their arrival they were screened and evacuated to quarantine centres for testing Covid-19, as per a new Standard Operating Procedure (SoP).
�No passenger will be allowed to go home without testing negative or till completion of 14 days quarantine, whichever is applicable under given circumstances,� the new SoP of the state Home Department said.
Lockdown violators: Manipur Police has detained 507 persons and seized 405 vehicles for violating lockdown norms in the state, a senior officer said.
They were fine a sum of Rs 59,320 today by the concerned duty magistrates, a press note issued by the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) L Kailun said.
The Additional DGP said the police department will continue to deal with those who violate the lockdown norms under the National Disaster Management Act 2005 with strong legal action.
