GUWAHATI, May 29 - The novel coronavirus cases rose to 1024 on Friday and among those who tested positive for COVID-19 during the day were six flight passengers.
Twenty two patients were also discharged during the day � six from GMCH, 12 from MMCH, 3 from SMCH and 1 from JMCH. The total number of discharged patients now stands at 125.
Meanwhile, the State health department today unveiled a dedicated COVID-19 hospital, which, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, would �strengthen the State�s resolve to fight the virus effectively�.
The four-storey hospital � an annexe of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital � was built at a cost of Rs 150 crore funded by the Centre.
The 236-bedded hospital has 186 wards and 50 ICUs and is equipped with separate lab and operation theatres.
�The original plan was to open six super-specialty departments in the new unit. But following the outbreak of COVID-19, we decided to convert it into a Covid-19 treatment facility for now. Post COVID, we will go back to our original plan,� Sarma said inaugurating the facility.
The new unit at GMCH is centrally air-conditioned and equipped with 14 Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UGVI) System procured from Canada.
The UGVI system will help in improving indoor air quality and bacteria management.
