Construction of Dhubri medical college

DHUBRI, Oct 13 - The construction work of the medical college at Dhubri can be expected to start from the first week of January next year.

The people of this part of the State have been waiting for the establishment of a medical college, and if the officials are to be believed, the construction of the buildings of the institution can be expected soon.

The officials of the PWD said that they have sent the detailed reports of the soil condition and the prospective buildings in the area to the Civil Engineering section in Guwahati, who will soon chalk out a �detailed planning� for the establishment.

It was also informed that the detailed plan is expected any time soon after which they would release tenders for construction of the buildings. It has been planned that 12 new buildings will be constructed exclusively for the medical college.

The existing Dhubri Civil Hospital is to be modified into the medical college, which is occupying over 40 bighas of land and for the college, additional 60 bighas of land has been occupied. �This is a huge project and will be established over 100 bighas of land,� said Pranab Kr Dey, Assistant Engineer, PWD buildings, adding that �the 60 bighas was occupied recently and we are done with the soil testing�.

He also said that the documents, including the maps of the area, have been sent to State Civil Engineering office in Guwahati for plan and estimate. �This is a huge project and needs more experts for planning, so we have referred it to the Civil Engineering Office in Guwahati for detailed planning and estimate,� said Dey.

He also said that estimated Rs 110 crore will be required to construct 12 buildings for the college. However, the officials said that the estimate and planning will need another two months. �We can expect the detailed plan of the project by December at the earliest,� said Dey, adding that �these constructions will start once the plans are made. We can expect the constructions to start by January 2017.�

The officials at PWD said that once the construction starts, it will take at least three years to be functional.

�We can�t assume how long it will take to complete the entire campus of the medical college. It will be a dynamic process, but we will try to make it functional as soon as possible,� added Dey.
