Completion of Bogibeel bridge by 2015

NEW DELHI, Dec 1 � Confirming time and cost overruns, the Railway Ministry has held resourcwwwes crunch, delay in signing of contracts and frequent disruption by militants as factors causing delay in implementation of Bogibeel rail-cum-road bridge.

The project is now targeted for completion by December 2015.

An expenditure of Rs 2,163.61 crore has been incurred up to March and an outlay of Rs 194 crore has been provided for the project for the financial year, Minister of State for Railways KH Muniyappa said in a Lok Sabha reply on Thursday.

The rail-cum-road bridge will link the north and south banks of Brahmaputra. Approaches and guide bunds have already been completed. The 44-km Chawolkhowa-Moranhat section has also been completed and commissioned, he added. There have been time and cost overruns in the construction of the bridge due to various reasons, including funds constraints, time taken in finalization of contract, frequent disruption by militants and poor law-and-order conditions, said the Minister.
