CM unveils statues at Kaoimary

TEZPUR, June 14 � �The freedom movement under the leader of Mahatma Gandhi was not racial but now a section of political parties is involved in racial politics and we are not involved in such politics�, said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, while unveiling three life size statue of martyrs of Quit India Movement namely Manbor Nath, Kumali Devi and Khahula Devi at Ghotoa naamghar premises, Kaoimary under Dhekiajuli revenue circle in Sonitpur district today.

He said that the development of the State is only possible if the villages are developed and mentioned about the sacrifice made by Kanaklata at Gohpur and Khahula Devi at Dhekiajuli.

Assam Cultural Minister, Bismita Gogoi who accompanied the Chief Minister in the programme disclosed that the State Government would sanction Rs 40 lakh to construct the statue of remaining eight martyrs of Dhekiajuli who laid their lives on September 20, 1942.

Later, the Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed building of the Circuit House at Tezpur which was built at the cost of Rs 2,58,000.

In the evening he went to Samanyaya Khetra and laid the foundation stone for the development works of renovation of the khetra for which Rs 50 lakh was sanctioned by the State Government. He also paid homage to Kalaguru Bishnu Prashad Rabha. The development work includes renovation Samanyaya Khetra, construction of office building, construction of foot path inside the khetra, restoration of electrical connection which was snapped in 2009.
