CM for converting Poshan Abhiyaan into mass movement

GUWAHATI, Sept 2 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today asked the Social Welfare Department for an exhaustive roadmap to cover all beneficiaries to eradicate malnutrition among children by providing them nutritious food through Anganwadi centres under Poshan Abhiyaan.

Reviewing the rollout and implementation status of Poshan Abhiyaan in the conference room of the Chief Minister�s office at Janata Bhawan today, Sonowal asked the Social Welfare Department to generate awareness throughout the State for successful implementation of the mission.

He also stressed successful implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, a scheme for adolescent girls.

It may be noted that the month of September will be observed as the Poshan Month.

The Chief Minister also asked the Social Welfare Department for the development of at least 100 kitchen gardens in the periphery of Anganwadi centres to feed the children with high quality foodstuff.

Sonowal emphasised the need for a strong ground level work and participation from all sectors, for converting the mission into Jan Andolan.

Sonowal also said that along with implementing Poshan Abhiyaan, adequate care should be taken for adherence of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan so that cleanliness is maintained while giving the Poshan Abhiyaan a new dimension. He asked the department to take the help of technological solutions for the success of Poshan Abhiyaan.

The Poshan Abhiyaan will be launched in the State on September 4.

The Chief Minister also called for mapping of various areas where nutrition-based intervention is required. He also harped on convergence mechanism, ICT-based monitoring, and incentivising Anganwadi workers for using IT-based tools for the success of the mission.

Sonowal asked the senior officers of the Social Welfare Department to produce infotainment video to motivate the people across the State to champion the cause of Poshan Abhiyaan, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and Fit India Movement.

Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, Additional Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah, Chief Minister�s Principal Secretary Sanjay Lohiya, Secretary to Social Welfare Department Hamen Das and other senior officers were present at the meeting.
