GUWAHATI, Oct 24 - The Assam Sepak Takraw Association is all set to host the 22nd Junior National Sepak Takraw Championship, for both men and women, at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here from October 26 to 30.
Addressing a press conference here today, the State sepak takraw body secretary Bishnu Ram Nunisa revealed that out of 31 affiliated states, 25 have confirmed their participation in both categories. Around 500 players will gather for this event. He said some of the participating teams have already arrived here.
The matches of the league-cum-knock out championship will kick start at 7 am. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is likely to inaugurate the event on October 26. Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi will be the chief guest in the closing function to be held at 4 pm on October 30.
Officials of the organising committee Rajib Prakash Baruah, Dr Subhash Basumatary, Balendra Mohan Chakravorty and Rupen Bora, among others were also present in the press conference.
