GUWAHATI, Sept 6 - Eminent sculptor and artist Biren Singha was today felicitated by the Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College on the occasion of its Freshmans Social.

Singha was felicitated with a gamosa, eri sadar, cash and a panegyric recitation by Dr Sikhamoni Konwar, Principal of the college and Dr Amburam Gogoi, president of the college governing body.

In his speech, Singha said, This world belongs to this generation of youths, and the student community must perceive their relation to their own land, air, water and nature. This perception will build the base for their learning and developing as true human being.

Singha also reflected upon how hardship and drudgery in life paved the way for him to become an artist. Art has been his passion and the innate souls drive, a kind of restlessness which can be pacified only through his artistic vent; it is his quest for truth where he finds beauty. Necessity is the propelling force behind every successful endeavour, he further added.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the college Dr Konwar welcomed the freshers and said that perseverance and hard work would always pay. And Biren Singha was a living example of it. Students must emulate him, she added.

The Freshmans Social function was buoyed by the musical performance by noted singer Mantu Moni Saikia and a motley of cultural shows by the teachers and students of the college. On the occasion, Annanya Kalita of the psychology department was awarded the Dr Dandeswar Gogoi and Haramohan Borkakoti memorial awards for being the colleges best graduate (Arts) for the year 2018.
