GUWAHATI, Sept 1 - The Assam Police today filed the chargesheet in connection with the infamous Dokmoka mob lynching incident in which two youths from Guwahati � Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath � were bludgeoned to death.
The 46-page chargesheet was filed with the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate at Diphu, against 48 accused including Alfajos Timung alias Alfa who had allegedly orchestrated the entire mob lynching episode. The chargesheeted accused also include a minor.
Police, in its chargesheet, alleged that Alfajoj had on that fateful evening set the villagers upon Nilotpal and Abhijeet describing them as child-lifters. The chargesheet was filed by investigating officer Kamal Chandra Rajbangshi and all the accused were primarily charged with Sections 302 and 149 of the IPC.
Director General of Assam Police, Kula Saikia told media persons this afternoon that all the accused were booked under various sections of the IPC, including Sections 302, 341, 427, 143, 144, 147, 148 and 149, and more than 70 witnesses were examined. Investigators have annexed over 800 pages of supplementary documents, including forensic reports. The case diary runs into 104 pages.
�We have filed an evidence-based chargesheet,� the DGP said, while refusing to elaborate on the content of the chargesheet.
Nilotpal, an audio engineer by profession, along with businessman friend Abhijeet, were lynched to death by an unruly mob on June 8 in Panjuri Kachari village under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong district, where they went for sight-seeing.
Both Nilotpal and Abhijeet, were mistaken for child-lifters after WhatsApp messages warning people to be aware of child-lifters went viral in Karbi Anglong district. Subsequently, two cases were registered with the Dokmoka police station, which were later clubbed into one.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was also formed and the investigation was also supervised by ADGP (Law and Order) Mukesh Agarwala and Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police Siva Prasad Ganjawala.
