NEW DELHI, Aug 20 The Centre is ready to extend all assistance to Assam for relief and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people of the State, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal said after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today.

Sonowal said in a statement that the Assam government has to submit a memorandum to the Centre appraising it about the damage caused by the flood and erosion and also detailing its requirement and assistance needed from the Centre. On receipt of the memorandum, the Centre would sanction the assistance, he said.

Sonowal further said that during his meeting with the Union Home Minister, he also appraised him about the adverse impact of the flood on wildlife.

Sonowal said that he has written a letter to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi explaining that unless the State government formally approaches the Centre for relief and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people and mentioning the damages caused by the floods, including to embankments, it would be difficult for the Centre to extend any assistance.
