GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - Forensic experts based in New Delhi will conduct the chemical analysis of the exhibits collected from the blast site in Guwahati to find out the exact composition of the explosives used, even as investigators continue to remain clueless about the nature of explosion on Saturday.
Officials of the Central law-enforcing agency have already taken the exhibits to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi and the same will be handed over to the experts tomorrow.
The Saturday blast, which took place in Guwahati's Sukreswarghat area leaving four persons injured, created a sense of panic among the people. Questions were raised on the efficacy of the intelligence mechanism, which failed to avert the blast.
Sources privy to the development stated that the Central law-enforcing agencies are studying the nature of the latest blast in Guwahati in view of the existing law and order situation.
�Since analysis of post-blast explosive residue has become an important aspect when it comes to tackling terrorist activities, we are not taking chances,� sources told The Assam Tribune.
Sources also stated the experts at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Guwahati too have asked to conduct the test simultaneously.
�The chemical analysis test goes through several stages and for each kind of explosives, different methodology and solvent are used,� sources pointed out.
�Profiling of chemical composition of explosives takes time. Sometimes, the results are out in a couple of days and sometime it may take time of a couple of weeks,� sources said.
An Assam Police source, informed that the intelligence agencies are working in tandem to find out the forces behind the blast.
�At this moment, it is a bit difficult to single out any terror outfit,� sources pointed out, adding, �although the ULFA has claimed the responsibility for the blast, it is difficult to buy its statement at this point of time.�
Meanwhile, Assam Police headquarters has reviewed the security arrangements across the State and security has been tightened in all the vulnerable locations.
Further, in view of the Durga Puja celebrations and the forthcoming cricket One Day International match to be played on October 21, additional deployment has been effected. Patrolling in different areas of the city has also been intensified.
Director General of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia today chaired a meeting with the top police officials of the State at the office of the Commissioner of Guwahati Police where they had a threadbare discussion on the existing law-and-order scenario.
Meanwhile, the Superintendents of Police of all the districts have been asked to step up the vigil.
