GUWAHATI, Aug 14 � The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today carried out countrywide raids in connection with the Saradha Group chit fund scam, including at three places in Guwahati city.
CBI sources told The Assam Tribune that officials of the Bureau carried out daylong raids in the residence of former Union Minister Matang Singh in the city. His residence in Delhi was also raided. Sources said that CBI officials wanted to raid the residence of Monoranjana Singh, estranged wife of Matang Singh, who owned a TV channel based in Guwahati. However, as the house was locked, the CBI could not raid it and decided to lock it till the keys can be obtained to carry out the raid.
The CBI also raided the residence of one Rajesh Bajaj in the city. Bajaj is said to be close to Matang Singh and it is suspected that he was the link between Singh and Saradha Group chief Sudipto Sen. The allegation against Matang Singh and Monoranjana Singh is that they received money from the Saradha Group chief.
Sources said that of the places raided today, 22 places are located in Kolkata, four in Delhi, three in Guwahati and one in Odisha. However, sources refused to divulge the findings in the raids.
