Cartoonist Champak Barbora accorded hearty farewell

GUWAHATI, Jan 31 - Senior cartoonist of The Assam Tribune group of newspapers Champak Barbora was accorded a warm farewell at the office following his retirement on Friday. Barbora, a well-known artist of the state, had been associated with The Assam Tribune group as a cartoonist for 25 years. In addition to the innumerable cartoons and illustrations he had drawn for the group, his daily front-page cartoon feature �Jocoserious� in The Assam Tribune has been a most endearing and enduring facet of the newspaper.

A farewell meeting held on the occasion was presided over by PJ Baruah, Executive Editor of The Assam Tribune. Barbora was felicitated with a sarai, shawl, japi, book and several other gifts. Several of his colleagues, including Indrani Rai Medhi, Partha Pratim Hazarika, Santanava Hazarika, Biman Arandhara, Sivasish Thakur, Manoranjan Sarkar, Robin Das and Devasish Sinha, among others, recollected their association with Barbora and his contributions towards The Assam Tribune group.

Barbora, in his speech, thanked everyone and called upon his colleagues to uphold the dignity and credibility maintained by the Assam Tribune group for decades.
