Carbide-laced mango destroyed in Dhubri

DHUBRI, June 1 - Officials of Dhubri district administration and Dhubri Municipal Board destroyed more than 3 quintals of mango today after these were found to be laced with chemicals like carbide.

�Around 150 boxes of mango, each weighing 25 kg were seized from five wholesales shops located in NS Road here and were dumped and destroyed in Mela Maidam,� informed Food Safety Officer Nayan Das. He also informed that they had sent some samples to a laboratory for testing.

�These mangoes were ripened by using chemicals like carbide which can be very dangerous for health as it can cause various kinds of diseases,� said Das and assured that they will continue the drive.
