SHILLONG, April 1 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has begun a campaign blitzkrieg on a chopper addressing rallies after rallies in different parts of Garo Hills districts, compared to a less enthusiastic campaign for the Shillong seat by the candidates here.
Sangma, the National People�s Party (NPP) president, is campaigning for the party candidate, Agatha Sangma for the Tura seat. He today campaigned in North and East Garo Hills districts in three different locations of Rongrong Abema, Mangsang and Chibonga.
Through the election rallies, Sangma is trying to touch the emotional chord of the electorates that they shared with late Purno Sangma and telling them his daughter Agatha Sangma would fulfill some of his dreams.
Sangma is also countering the Congress� campaign and assuring the people that the NPP would take care of the people�s interest in the wake of the controversy surrounding the Citizen�s (Amendment) Bill (CAB).
�Meghalaya was the first State in India to oppose the CAB and raise its objection. The Congress is aware that they are not coming back to power. So they are saying that NPP will partner with BJP. The Congress party is well qualified from the University of lies,� he said in one of the rallies.
On the other hand, the campaign for the Shillong seat has been hit due to poor weather and plummeting temperature. Nonetheless, the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance has scheduled a mega rally at Polo Grounds here on Tuesday.
In the rally, several senior leaders of the MDA would address the gathering and seek support for its common candidate from the United Democratic Party, Jemino Mawthoh.
The Congress candidate, Vincent H Pala has begun his campaigning in the right earnest and has been holding small rallies in the State capital here. He has held rallies at Pynursla area in places like Lyngkyrdem, Nongspung and others.
On Monday, the Public Relation Cell of the Congress informed that Pala would be campaigning at Kynshi, West Khasi Hills, Mawngap (East Khasi Hills) and other places. At least five rallies have been scheduled for Pala everyday in the days ahead.
However, little is known about the BJP candidate, Sanbor Shullai and his itineraries. Neither the BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh nor the spokesperson Basu Chakraborty returned calls.
