Call to work for Assamese nation, language

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Dec 7 - �Everybody will have to play the role of a soldier to save the Assamese nation and the language as well which are in deep trouble.� This was the observation made by litterateur, poet, critic and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury who was taking part in a book release function as the chief guest at Jarabari here recently.

Dr Choudhury expressed grave concern over the deteriorating condition, the endangered future of the unity of the Assamese nation and also its language and literature. He underlined the need of using internet for highlighting the creations of the �doyens� of the Assamese literature before the world.

Dr Choudhury released a book titled Asomiya Fokora Jojana Aru Khandabakyar Abhidhan penned by late Hiren Bhagawati at a function organised by local literary forum Jonaki Chora. The programme, conducted by Dilip Kumar Bhattacharya, secretary of Jonaki Chora, was attended by writers Dr Mridusmita Phukan, Dr Khemraj Nepal, Ranaprasad Hazarika, Jamir Ahmed, Indraprasad Saikia, among others.
