GUWAHATI, Nov 13 - Thirty seven eminent personalities from different walks of life have appealed to the people of the State to shun firecrackers during this Diwali due to the ongoing pandemic.
The signatories of the appeal include scientist, academician, journalist, social activist of the State like Dr Dinesh Chandra Goswami, Prof Tapan Sarma, Dr Dipak Goswami, Dr Anil Choudhury, Dr Mohan Chandra Kalita, Paresh Malakar among others.
They said the air pollution caused from bursting of firecrackers will be very dangerous in this pandemic time. They also slammed Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for his recent tweet regarding Diwali.
Meanwhile, Ellora Vigyan Mancha has urged the people of Assam to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the State Pollution Control Board in connection with the festival of Diwali.
