DHEKIAJULI, Dec 18 � The Dhekiajuli Anchalik Chatra Santha submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Circle Officer, Dhekiajuli, seeking upgrade of Saheed Nagar, Dhekiajuli into a subdivision. The student body along with its sister organisation has taken up a series of agitational programmes demanding declaration of Dhekiajuli as a subdivision.
It may be mentioned that in the last by-election to the Dhekiajuli LAC, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi during his election campaign for Congress candidate Bhimananda Tanti asked the voters to elect the Congress candidate and said that he would upgrade Dhekiajuli into a subdivision if the Congress candidate won the election. Tanti won the Dhekiajuli seat by a big margin.
After submitting the memorandum, Rupam Bora, president, and Sibabrata Bora, joint secretary, in a press release, said that at the time of submission of the memorandum, Sonitpur district education secretary of AASU Paragsen Deka, vice president Chandra Kamal Hazarika and other AASU activists were present. They threatened that if the Government failed to declare Dhekiajuli as a subdivision, the Dhekiajuli AASU unit would start an agitational programme in cooperation with the public.
In it last annual meeting held on December 7 at the Dhekiajuli Public Library, Dhekiajuli Senior Citizens� Association also adopted a resolution urging the State Government to declare Dhekiajuli as a subdivision which it termed as a genuine demand of the public.
