Call to build a TB-free society by 2025

TEZPUR, Oct 22 - The District TB Centre here in association with the Central Jail organised a TB-HIV screening and awareness camp at the jail premises here recently.

The primary discussion was on tuberculosis (TB) and its adverse effect on the society and its prevalence among the different vulnerable groups like jail inmates, with emphasis on the symptoms and treatment methodology among the inmates. The speakers urged all present to consider TB as a challenge and shoulder some social responsibilities in this matter in order to attain the goal of building a TB-free society by 2025.

Towards the concluding part of the programme, mass sputum collection and HIV screening was done by the laboratory technicians of both the District TB Centre and Central Jail.

Claimed to be a first-of-its-kind event here, it was addressed by Kishan Kumar Sarmah, ADC (Health), Dr Krishna Kemprai, Joint Director of Health Services, Satyendra Kumar Baishya, Jailor of the Central Jail, Dr Sanjoy Roy, District TB Officer, Dr Mrinal Kumar Tamuli, Senior Medical Officer, Central Jail Sonitpur, Dr Seema Rajbongshi. District TB Centre staff, including Abhijit Lahkar, Prantik Orang, Joydeep Roy, Leela Nath Gautam, Deepa Bhuyan and staff of the Central Jail were also present at the programme.
