Call to avoid plastic use

WILLIAMNAGAR, June 5 - The East Garo Hills district administration celebrated the World Environment Day with the theme, �Beat plastic pollution,� at the DRDA Hall, Williamnagar. Saljong K Marak, ADC, was the chief guest.

Marak urged the gathering to keep localities, markets and rivers free from plastic, saying that plastic is a threat to environment. In order to sustain a clean environment, he stressed the need to avoid the use of plastic products.

The ADC sought public cooperation to meet the global challenge in reducing the use of plastic. Others who spoke on the occasion included Fr Sunny Augustine of Loyola College and DP Marak, retired Assistant Conservator of Forests. Tree saplings were planted also in schools and colleges here on the occasion.
