JORHAT, May 26 A day after he visited some disputed areas in Mariani along the Assam-Nagaland border, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nilomoni Sen Deka said there must be bilateral discussions with Nagaland government for finding out solutions to the problems on border issues.

I will discuss the issue with the Chief Minister soon. There must be result-oriented discussions with Nagaland government on this subject, said Deka.

The cabinet minister also said that he had witnessed disappointments in the faces of several local people, who have been suffering from a lot of problems while living along the border villages in Mariani.

Deka went to Mariani on Saturday during his official assignment to take stock of the situation after local MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi had allegedly been attacked by CRPF personnel.

However, the minister said, a case has been registered against the accused CRPF personnel as a part of the probe on the assault to Kurmi.

Kurmi alleged that he was beaten up by security personnel while he was going to visit the families of some victims targeted by suspected Naga extortionists in the area.

On Sunday though two cabinet ministers of border area development department and revenue and disaster management department Siddique Ahmed and Prithibi Majhi were sent from Dispur to visit the disputed areas in Mariani, they could not reach their destinations as several local people blocked their road.

They met some local people in Naginijan area while taking stock of the situation there.

The local MLA Kurmi also demanded the ministers to find out solutions to the problems of the people, who have been suffering atrocities from Naga miscreants for years.
