Border in Karimganj to be floodlit: BSF DG

BADARPUR, April 11 � �Floodlights will be set up at the Karimganj Indo-Bangla border, within the current year, said the BSF, Director General, Subhash Joshi, on Wednesday at Karimganj Sutarkandi, while talking to mediapersons, during his visit of Indo-Bangla border areas of Mizoram and Barak Valley region. It may be noted that after taking over charge as the new Director general of the Border Security Force, this is for the first time that Subhash Joshi came to Karimganj to inspecting the Indo-Bangla border areas.

During the discussion with the mediapersons, he said � within one year, all work for setting up the floodlights in the entire Indo-Bangla borders areas will be completed. After setting up the floodlights, the work of border protection will become easier, he added. Replying to a question, he said, that it was true that there are problems faced while working to ensure the protections as well as security of the country, but there should also be an attempt to find solution to the problems.

Regarding the standard or quality of the barbed wire fencing of Barak Valley, Joshi said, that no allegation or complain has come upto this day. But there are complaints, then proper arrangements will be taken up immediately Joshi however admitted that in some parts of the Indo-Bangla border areas of Assam, including the Barak Valley, the quality of barbed wire fencing is not good. Joshi said that he had strictly instructed the BSF commanding officers to keep on eagle�s eye on the matter.

Replying to another question, he said there is no difference in the standard of quality of the barbed wire fencing in Indo-Bangla border of Assam and Indo-Pak border areas of Rajasthan, Kashmir and Punjab. He said, due to different natural conditions in the North-Eastern region, including, Karimganj, the construction works of barbed wire fencing may not be same. But still claimed that due to the work ethics of the BSF personnel, various border areas of India are well protected. He added that 90 per cent construction works of barbed wire fencing have already been completed, and remaining will be over within a few more days. He said, the number of BSF troops will be increase.

After arriving at Karimganj, Subhash Joshi along with high level BSF officials also went to Bangladesh border (zero point of Indo-Bangla border) at a invitation of BGB (Border Guides of Bangladesh), where he was received be BGB chief ABN Golam Mustafa and other BGB high level officials. During his a friendly discussion was held with an open mind regarding the border problems of both the countries.

During his inspection tour, he was accompanied by BSF IG (Mizorm and Cachar Zone) AC Thapila, DIG Umesh Chandra Hazarika, DIG (IB) Branch SC Burkuti and 14 high-level BSF officials. The DG also inspected Bhanga and Jabainpur border areas.
