Book on �Mancha Surya� Dharani Barman released

NALBARI, Feb 27 - A book on the life and contributions of Sangeet Natak Akademi award winning artiste �Mancha Surya� Dharani Barman was released in a function held at Balipathar of Chamata in Nalbari district on Sunday. The book was formally released by Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Industries, Commerce and Transport.

In his speech, Patowary said that stage artiste Dharani Barman always maintained close relations with the common people. Apart from cultural activities, he socially led the people of Dharmapur LAC.

Speaking in the meeting, AASU chief adviser Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said that the Government should publish the plays in which he performed and his speeches related to performing arts. In order to keep him alive among the new generation, Bhattacharya demanded of the Government to make a documentary on the the life of the legendary artist.

Addressing the meeting, Dr Basanta Kumar Bhattacharya, former president of Nalbari Zilla Sahitya Sabha said that Late Dharani Barman was not only an artiste, he was also an institution. His performances in the characters Man Singh, Golam Kader, Siraj can�t be forgotten by people who watched them. The meeting presided over by Hasan Ali was addressed, among others, by noted artistes Prithiraj Rabha, Chetana Das, MLA Ashok Sarma, Narayan Deka and Nalbari Deputy Commissioner Ananta Lal Gyani. Earlier, Abala Barman offered garlands on the portrait of Late Dharani Barman.
