BJP finalises candidates panel

GUWAHATI, Sept 25 - The election committee of the State BJP today finalised the shortlisted panel of candidates for three out of the four Legislative Assembly constituencies of Assam which will go to the bypolls on October 21.

However, the panel of shortlisted candidates for the Jania constituency could not be made today as the number of applicants is huge and a final decision in this regard is expected tomorrow.

The poll committee meeting held here was attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and other senior leaders of the saffron party. The committee finalised the panels for the Sonari, Rangapara and Ratabari constituencies.

There are three names in the panel for each constituency.

The panel for the Ratabari seat includes Jaydev Das, Vijay Malakar and Sunil Bil. For Rangapara, the names of Rajen Borthakur, Keshab Upadhyay and Bata Surang have been shortlisted. With regard to the Sonari constituency, the panel includes the names of Swakhar Jyoti Gogoi, Nabanita Handique and Anup Singh Rajpurohit.

The State committee will now forward the names of the shortlisted candidates to the national committee. State BJP general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia said the national committee will take the final decision regarding the nominees.
