SILAPATHAR, Aug 6 � Buddhist monks from Taiwan and Korea and devotees from various parts of India thronged Silapathar for construction of the biggest monastery in North East after Tawang at Silapathar No. 1 Phulbari near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border under Dhemaji district.
Rituals, which have been going on at the site for constructing the monastery since July 26, ended today. Locals and visitors from various parts of the country took part in the rituals. It may be mentioned that the biggest monastery in the North East is at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. It was constructed by the sixth Dalai Lama. The monastery to be constructed here will be bigger than the one at Tawang. It will also have a school and a hospital for the greater interest of the area.
The monastery is being built with the aim to develop the physical and mental aspects of children. Children from any religious background may study in the school and any person can take treatment in the monastery�s hospital.
Local people, who felt that the monastery will be help boost religious tourism, contributed their best for the sake of socio-economic development of the area.
