Bhaben Baruah Award presented to Bidya Rao

NALBARI, Sept 4 - The Bhaben Baruah Award for the year 2018 was conferred on renowned cine actress Bidya Rao at a function held at Nalbari Natya Mandir yesterday evening for her lifetime contribution towards the progress of performing arts.

The award, instituted by the Nalbari district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) consists of a cash award of Rs 10,000, a citation and a seleng sador and phulam japi, among others.

The award-giving ceremony was presided over by Mrinal Kumar Barman, president of Nalbari district unit of AJYCP and attended by Palash Sangma, general secretary of AJYCP, Bijon Bayan, assistant secretary of AJYCP, Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, president of Asam Sahitya Sabha and social worker Ganesh Tamuli, among several other prominent personalities.

Earlier, the Bhaben Baruah Award recipient Bidya Rao and the other guests were ceremonially welcomed to the Nalbari Natya Mandir from Nalbari Inspection Bungalow accompanied by a cultural procession.

It may be pertinent to mention here that the Nalbari district unit of AJYCP has been presenting the Bhaben Baruah Award since 2009.For the first time, the award was presented to play artiste Dulal Roy. The other recipients of the Bhaben Baruah Award are Guruji Adya Sarma (2010), Biju Phukan (2011), Nilu Chakravarty (2012), Mahananda Sarma(2013), Jibeswar Deka (2014), Achyut Lahkar(2015), Dharani Barman (2016) and Hemanta Dutta (2017) respectively.
