Bengal girls crush Assam, Jharkhand win

GUWAHATI, Oct 10 � Bengal posted a 101-run victory against host Assam in the opening match of the East Zone U-19 Women�s Cricket Championship at the NFRSA Stadium Maligaon today.

In the other match of the opening day at the Nehru Stadium here, Jharkhand defeated Tripura by eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.

Opting to bat first, Bengal gathered a commendable total of 183 losing five wickets. The fifth wicket partnership between Prativa (53 n.o) and Saika Ishaque (50) was mainly responsible for building a smart total for the Bengal girls.

Assam miserably failed to chase the tough target and were skittled out for 82 in 49.3 overs. Six of the Assam batsmen were out before reaching double figures. Top scorer was Rashmi Dey with 15.

At the Nehru Stadium, electing to bat first, Tripura managed to score 105 all out in 41.4 overs. Rizu Saha was their leading run-getter with 27 while seven of their batsmen failed to attain the double figure mark. In reply, the Jharkhand girls took 34.2 overs to overtake Tripura�s total as they scored 106 for two. Rashmi Gupta top scored with 28 along with Sana Saif (26) and the extra runs (26) made it easy for Jharkhand in reaching the target.
