JOHRAT, Jan 10 Former general secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha Basanta Kumar Goswami was expelled from the organisation by a letter (ASS/Ghy/Pradhan/2012-2023/1331) for the alleged disregard shown by him towards the rules and regulations of the Asam Sahitya Sabha.

Goswami received the letter here today which was issued by Paramananda Rajbonshi on January 5 last. In the letter it was made clear that Goswami was involved in using media against the president and some office bearers of the Asam Sahitya Sabha and used the logo of the Asam Sahitya Sabha without authority to arrange a convention, for which the working committee meeting of Sabha at Kaliabor on November 18, 2012 unanimously resolved to expel Goswami from the organisation.

Though Goswami was served show cause notice earlier, he did not respond to it for which the Sabha resolved to expel him from all the membership of the organisation, the letter stated.

Basanta Goswami became general secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha for the first time in 1999 when Chandra Prasad Saikia was the president of Sabha. He again became general secretary in 2001 when Homen Borgohain was the president and was involved in the publication of the Assamese Encyclopedia. It is worthy to be mentioned here that the letter served to Goswami was signed by Paramananda Rajbonshi as the general secretary of Sabha.
