PATACHARKUCHI, Sept 22 - The Barpeta district administration has prepared a project to develop some historical places as tourist spots in a bid to woo both foreign and domestic tourists.
We are planning to develop Kalibari Thaan, Jalikhata, Bhogeswari Temple and Parihareswar Devalaya as tourist destinations considering their historic importance and tourist potential, Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta district Munindra Sarma said while interacting with a group of mediapersons at Pathsala recently. In this context he informed that the administration was also planning to preserve the office building of Bajali Revenue Circle located at Patacharkuchi. Citing reasons, he said that for the past several years tourist footfall in these places was increasing gradually. The administration has therefore come forward with a plan to make these places more attractive.
The interaction programme was also attended by Bikash Sarma, District Information and Public Relations Officer of Barpeta. The mediapersons present offered various suggestions in order to improve the tourist destinations.
During the interaction, the Deputy Commissioner presented a brief outline of various initiatives to develop infrastructure in the district.
Leading singer Jiten Sarma and Pranab Goswami recited poems while Pulu Sarma delivered a lecture. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the people to avoid plastic bags in order to save the environment, including flora and fauna.
As plastic bags have posed a threat to the environment, we have therefore been organising awareness meetings among the people to urge them to refrain from using plastic carrybags, he said.
