BARPETA, April 21 - The police administration in Barpeta district has been extending its helping hands to the poor and needy since the lockdown began. They have given both cooked food and raw materials to poor people living in different parts of the district.
As part of its benevolent activities a, team of Assam Police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Samiran Baishya distributed food items to the bell metal workers residing around Sarthebari in the district.
The team moved along several villages like Gomura, Karakuchi, Namshala and Amrikhowa and handed over bags containing rice, dal, potatoes, mustard oil, salt, pumpkin, hand sanitiser and face masks. They were assisted by office bearers of Assam Bell Metal Workers� Association, officer-in-charge of Sarthebari Police Station Anjan Boro, Chairman of Sarthebari Municipality Board Bijay Bhuyan and some local social workers.
Later talking to reporters DSP Samiran Baishya said that the district police have kept in mind about those becoming jobless due to the lockdown and have been assisting them generously. He informed that a community kitchen has been set up in the police reserve and 1000 persons are being provided cooked food everyday. He also requested the people to follow the norms of lockdown and stay home for a healthy life.
