BARPETA, June 9 A 17-year-old boy from Barpeta bagged the 19th position in the entrance examination to the National Defence Academy (NDA) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Debanga Bhushan Das, the younger son of professor couple Dilip Kumar Das and Krishna Das, achieved the feat this year after a tough written, physical and oral examination. Debangas elder brother Siddhartha had bagged the 16th position in the NDA entrance examination in 2012, whose passing-out parade was completed this year. Siddhartha has now been selected as an Army lieutenant.
Both Debanga and Siddhartha studied at the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, up to the 12th standard and prepared themselves for the NDA examination from the very initial stage. While Siddhartha was admitted to the RIMC in 2007, his younger brother was admitted in 2010, both as single entrants from the State after a competitive selection process.
Dilip Kumar Das and Krishna Das told this correspondent that they are happy over the performance of their children. They said that their sons revere the Indian Army as the best service and hence, prepared themselves for a career in it. Engagement in the Army does not only mean that one is going to the war front, but that one is going to serve the nation, said Krishna Das, professor of Economics at Madhab Choudhury College here.
